Translation is one of old trades humans learned to communicate with each other. We developed language to ease that communication. Our brain translates words, signals, images, everything we receive from outside world into something that we understand without trouble.
A good, experienced foreign language translator does just that - translates your language to another so that all flavors of your expressions, all meanings are conveyed to the listener or reader in a way that they can understand without trouble.
Professional translation requires a lot of years of linguistic education and then years of experience. Not everyone who can speak two languages can translate. These are absolutely different things - a bilingual person and a translator. A bilingual person will suffice if you need to understand “Hello! How are you?”. For everything else you need a professional translator.

In other words, if you need your User’s Manual to be read in Spain, we will have it translated in Spain, by a professional linguist who lives there and knows the subject of what your User’s Manual describes. We will not ask a linguist in Mexico (they speak Spanish too, don’t they?) to translate your User’s Manual into European Spanish. Why do we use this approach? Because Mexico and Spain are different countries and while a Spaniard and a Mexican will understand each other very well, their cultural approach to similar items will be different, their choice of language, of words will be different. And if it is different, then your particular message will be lost during translation.
These fine differences and nuances may not be regarded as important at a first glance, but experience of many companies who decided to shortcut professional translation demonstrates otherwise - losses. They wasted time, efforts, money, and finally had to re-translate their materials all over again, but on a professional level.
